Afternoon .. the creatures awaken!

Yes .. the afternoon calls them from their cartoon-world -
.
The Cute:

The politically-weird:
The generally weird:
.
And of course...the alien-chicken love fest!

Yes... all these, and more, can invade your afternoon as well...

if you allow them ...

Visitor from the 19th century

Today I saw the cutest boy on the train. He was dressed up in like, literally, 19th century-style dress - sport jacket with the elbow patches, old-school tie, vest, etc...not in a hipster-way, but in a specially plain & humble simplicity.

And the best was that his face had this lean, drawn quality, like a fragile boy .. who maybe hasn't gotten enough to eat. His eyes were doe-like and sensitive, he seemed mildly spooked, like he was a country pumpkin in the big city, or on his way to an interview. His hair was fine, thin like a little mat on his head, shorn into a neat design.
What a cute wonderful boy, transplanted here from the last century to brighten and entertain my morning.

(Also, I use the word "boy" cos that was the image he projects, but really he's likely mid twenties)

In the spirit of old tymey things, I provide this link: http://www.lahacal.org/gentleman/attire.html

More on Mr. Peanut!

A role model for the ages - Mr. P!

Mr. Peanut

In searching for info on my friend Mr. Peanut, I found this amazing article - on the cartoon characters who sell us food, and their Ways:

A lil bit mo'

Some people have appeared on my desk; such as... a bookmark,

a future Napoleon,

And also; a striped shirt person

?

Best article ever - "Mo' Money, mo' problems," says NYTimes' Health section

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/07/health/07well.html

Really - what a great article. So simple. So true.

When we humans are given everything - too much of everything - we gets lazy and gluttonous and ill.

When we are given a slightly more sparing lifestyle, where we must strive a bit, have goals, have a searching purpose - our lives improve.

General heath also improves.

Good truths for the day, no?

Palin post

Ahem. Here is a poem I wrote in love and honour of a dear friend; Sarah Palin.
She even winked at me @ the debates as a thank you! :-)

My Dream Date with Sarah Palin
By Elvis Bakaitis
September 15, 2008

Soon as I see our new VP, on national TV
I dial Sarah Palin, just to ask her out with me
And flipping her cute ponytail, she’ll readily agree!
(Hey, anything can happen, ‘specially in fantasy :-)

Our first date, ah, we’ll roast up books, over an open fire
S’mores melt as Harry Potter burns upon the Palin pyre
We’ll sit on baby polar bears she killed in ‘92
After asking (rhetorically), “Now, what would Jesus do?”

I’ve got a lot of sympathy for Palin, don’t know why
If she knew of my love she’d surely pop me in the eye
But something keeps me hoping that her words are all a lie
Perhaps the way her eyes glow as she shoots wolves from the sky?

Her family’s all-American – look there go Track and Trigg!
Could there be cuter kids birthed by a lipstick-wearing pig?
Her children practice abstinence, their faith is never lost
“Immaculate conception, mom!” said Bristol, fingers crossed

With Palin in command, we’ll have God’s finger on the trigger
She’s never been to Europe, but ain’t Canada much bigger?
Our country mouse can hear Joe Biden waiting now to pounce
But she’s got fine worldvision; can see Russia from her house!

New mother of a baby and new mother of the nation
I look to VP Palin with a strange anticipation
She’ll rock us all to sleep and when we cuddle close and still
To sleeping ducks, she’ll sing the lullaby: “Drill, baby drill!”
